A FOCUS ON SAFETY

The XJ has a range of safety systems designed to lessen the risk of accidents and to protect both the occupants and other road users.

  • Aluminium Bodyshell

    PROTECTIVE BODYSHELL

Because the XJ is built from aluminum it is exceptionally rigid yet light. As a result, the car will carry less momentum into a crash and therefore have to absorb less impact energy to help protect the occupants.

  • AIRBAGS AND SEAT SAFETY

As well as driver and passenger front airbags, the XJ has side airbags in the outer edges of the front seats, and side curtain airbags that drop down from above the windows to help protect occupants in both the front and rear seats. Sensors detect the size and weight of the driver and passenger before the front airbags are inflated to help reduce injury. At the same time, the front seatbelts feature “soft landing” technology, which softens the contact with the airbag and pre-tensioners to help reduce slack. A further safety measure in the front seats is the Active Head Restraint front seat whiplash protection technology, which is designed to move the head restraints forward upon impact to help limit whiplash. All XJ models also feature an advanced Belt Minder system with Virtual Instrument display, visually showing which seats have belts in use.

  • ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL

The optional Adaptive Cruise Control uses microwave radar in the front bumper to sense if the vehicle in front slows down, and then use the throttle and brake to maintain a constant time gap. Once the road clears it will take the car back up to the previous speed. The radar also operates a Forward Alert, which gives the driver an audible warning if the traffic ahead slows quickly or another vehicle moves into the same lane as the XJ.

  • New XJ - Wheel

    ADVANCED BRAKING

All XJ models have anti-lock brakes, which vary the brake pressure to individual wheels to help prevent the wheels from locking under braking. If the car senses a sudden brake application, additional brake force is produced by Emergency Brake Assist, potentially giving shorter stopping distances. Advanced Emergency Brake Assist primes the brakes if the radar within the optional Adaptive Cruise Control senses an imminent collision.

  • New XJ - Blind Spot Monitor

    BLIND SPOT MONITOR

The standard Blind Spot Monitor uses radar sensors to show an amber warning signal in the side mirror if the system detects a vehicle in the driver's blind spot.

  • TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING

The standard Tire Pressure Monitoring system alerts the driver through the Virtual Instruments if it detects a loss of tire pressure.

  • New XJ - Security Key Fob

    SECURITY

Door locks on the XJ can be either controlled remotely from the key fob or opened or locked directly from the door handle using the standard Smart Key keyless entry. The doors can be set for single point or multi-point entry, where either all doors unlock at once or only the driver's door will unlock first. The driver can also set the doors to lock automatically when the car reaches a pre-set speed. The XJ is also protected by an alarm and an engine immobilizer.
