ALUMINUM BODY CONSTRUCTION
The all new XJ's bodyshell is constructed from aluminum and magnesium using techniques derived from the aerospace industry. Extruded, pressed and cast aluminum components are riveted, epoxy-bonded, and in specific areas, bolted together to form a strong monocoque structure that combines lightness with exceptional rigidity.
Aluminum body construction makes the new XJ one of the stiffest vehicles in its class. As well as being integral to the car's outstanding performance, it provides a superb platform for structural integrity and vehicle safety. -
AIRBAG AND SEAT OCCUPANT SENSING SYSTEM
The all new XJ features driver and front passenger front airbags, side airbags mounted in the outer edges of the seat to help protect against side impact, and full side curtain airbags that drop down above the doors for both front and rear occupants.
For the driver and front seat passenger the front airbags feature two-stage deployment. Sensors are designed to detect the size and weight of the occupant and their position in the seat in order to calculate the force at which the airbag is to be deployed. The system works in tandem with pyrotechnic front seat belt retractors which feature "soft landing" technology, designed to pre-tension the belts and soften contact with the front airbags if an impact is sensed.
The intelligent design of the XJ's power adjustable front seats can also help to reduce injuries in the event of a collision. They feature anti-whiplash technology designed to support the head by moving the head restraints forward in certain types of collisions. -
ACTIVE SEAT BELTS
The all new XJ's groundbreaking Active Seat Belts, standard on Supercharged models and optional on XJ and XJL models, work in harmony with the vehicle dynamics and react to changing driving conditions to help provide greater comfort, safety and security. Under hard cornering or heavy braking, electric motors are designed to progressively tighten the front seat belts, drawing the occupants snug into the seatbacks. The tension in the belts reduces when the road straightens, or the drive becomes more relaxed.

ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), standard on Supersport and optional on all other models, uses microwave radar technology hidden behind the front fender to monitor the road ahead. If the system senses that the car in front is moving more slowly, it is designed to automatically ease off the throttle or gently apply the brakes, in order to maintain a constant distance. Once the system senses the road ahead clears, ACC smoothly accelerates back to the preset speed. The system also features Forward Alert which is designed to provide an audible warning should traffic ahead slow quickly, or another vehicle move to the lane in front. ADVANCED BRAKING SYSTEMS
A sophisticated ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) is standard on all models. It delivers enhanced braking performance in a variety of conditions by rapidly varying brake pressure to resist wheel lockup during emergency braking, helping to retain steering control.
Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) has been designed to automatically deliver additional brake pressure to bring the braking force into the area where ABS becomes active, should the system sense a rapid application of the brake pedal. This is designed to provide shorter stopping distances than the driver alone could have achieved.
Advanced Emergency Brake Assist works in tandem with Adaptive Cruise Control. Using the ACC radar, the system calculates distance and speed of approach to the vehicle in front and pre-charges the brakes to help minimize impact speed if a collision is predicted. BLIND SPOT MONITOR
The all new XJ's standard Blind Spot Monitor can take much of the uncertainty out of lane changing. Using radar sensors to remotely cover areas in the lanes adjacent to the XJ that cannot be seen by mirrors, it is designed to alert the driver of overtaking traffic with an amber warning icon in the external mirrors. TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM
Standard on all new XJ models, the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) has sensors in each wheel that continuously monitor the pressure in each tire, and alert the driver to a loss of pressure.

SECURITY SYSTEMS
A perimeter alarm and engine immobilizer helps to protect your all new XJ. The Smart Key has control functions including remote locking and unlocking (for the driver’s door only or for all doors and trunk) with an encryption system allowing for roughly 64 billion combinations. The Smart Key technology also allows all doors to be locked or double-locked by simply pressing a door handle button. The new XJ also includes drive-away locking, and the speed at which it operates can be selected via the Touch-screen.
