75 Years Looking Forward

Motor shows, race events and classic-car meetings prepare to host Jaguar’s 75th anniversary celebrations.

2010 marks Jaguar’s 75th anniversary, with a theme of ‘75 Years Looking Forward’. It’s three-quarters of a century since founder Sir William Lyons picked ‘Jaguar’ to be the name of his new SS100 sports car. “In 2010, we’re celebrating our past, and 75 years of designing and building cars that celebrate the art of automobile making,” says Mike O’Driscoll, managing director of Jaguar Cars. “But we’re also celebrating the promise of the future and the introduction of the all new XJ. Sir William Lyons once said that a car ‘was the closest thing we can create to something that is alive’, a sentiment that has stood the test of time.”

As well as a focus on the modern line-up of the groundbreaking XK, XF and All New XJ, events will take place during 2010 to celebrate the pioneering heritage of Jaguar’s past. As part of the celebrations, Jaguar will have strong presence at a host of motor shows, race events and classic-car meetings. We’ve listed a few of the major ones below, but take a look at jaguar.com throughout the year for the latest news.

  • GOODWOOD FESTIVAL OF SPEED (JULY 2 - JULY 4)

The Goodwood Festival of Speed has been a centrepiece of the automotive, motorsport and social calendars for more than a decade. In 2010, it celebrated the 60th anniversary of Formula 1 and the 50th anniversary of the first RAC Rally, it also saw a host of race and rally stars in new and historic machinery, as well as a range of cars celebrating Jaguar’s 75th.

  • PEBBLE BEACH CONCOURS D’ELEGANCE (AUGUST 11 - AUGUST 15)

With a heritage stretching back to 1950, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in Monterey, California, is easily the biggest and best of its kind. This year, Jaguar is a key sponsor and it is aiming to get 14 XKSS cars together for event. The XKSS was a road-going version of the Jaguar D-Type Le Mans racing car that were being made before the Brown’s Lane Jaguar factory caught fire in 1957. With each XKSS worth an estimated $5 million it should be an impressive sight.

  • NÜRBURGRING OLD-TIMER GRAND PRIX (AUGUST 13 - AUGUST 15)

The Automobilclub von Deutschland’s end-of-summer Old-Timer Grand Prix at the Nürburgring in Germany has become a traditional hotspot for historic motorsport fans and motoring enthusiasts. Now in its 38th year, around 65,000 people are expected to turn up in 2010 for a blend of classic Formula 1, grand prix and sports-car racing, car-club meetings and an incredible array of merchandise and memorabilia stands.
