XK’s 6-speed fully adaptive shift system delivers lightning-fast gear changes and is optimised for performance and economy. For a heightened driving experience and increased involvement, gears can also be selected manually using the paddles which are conveniently mounted behind the steering wheel.
JAGUARDRIVE SELECTOR™ AND JAGUARDRIVE CONTROL™
Press the ‘Start’ button and XK’s precision-engineered, chrome rotary JaguarDrive Selector™ rises from the centre console into the palm of your hand to offer control over the automatic transmission. You can choose between Drive or Sport mode, which holds the engine in lower gears for longer in order to provide a more dynamic experience. For even greater driver involvement, gears can be selected manually by utilising the simple one touch paddles mounted, at your fingertips, behind the steering wheel.
JaguarDrive Control™ offers two further selectable modes to suit your driving style or the prevailing conditions.
Dynamic mode remaps the car’s software to further emphasise its sporting character. It sharpens the throttle response, increases steering weighting and performs gear shifts more quickly and at higher engine speeds.
By selecting Winter mode, the system automatically dampens acceleration and applies more gradual traction.
The sophisticated Adaptive Dynamics system instinctively modifies the car’s response to conditions and driver input to enhance the driving experience. It features Adaptive Damping, which assesses body motion and pitch rates 100 times per second and adjusts the settings for each damper accordingly. The steering wheel position is measured 500 times a second enabling the system to predict the body’s roll rate. The stiffness of each individual damper is then adjusted to help maintain control, stability and agility.
XK can maximise stability in unexpected situations when it detects wheel spin, thanks to Dynamic Stability Control (DSC). The system’s default setting automatically optimises available grip by braking individual wheels. If you want a sportier drive, or if you’re using snow chains, simply switch to Trac DSC, which allows some slippage or overspin before the system kicks in.
Designed to keep the car as stable as possible and to provide superior traction over asphalt and loose surfaces, the Active Differential – standard on XKR and XKR-S – detects slippage and varies the power supplied to either rear wheel.
The Automatic Speed Limiter (ASL) system is fitted as standard throughout the range and offers increased convenience during motorway driving. ASL allows the driver to select a maximum speed that should not be exceeded.
XK releases the parking brake as soon as you select ‘Drive’ by working with the JaguarDrive Selector™. The parking brake can also be operated manually.
The optional XKR Speed Pack increases maximum speed from 155mph (250km/h) to 174mph (280km/h).
A body-coloured Aerodynamic Pack with front splitter and larger rear spoiler, a body-coloured rear diffuser and side sill extensions, and 20 inch Nevis alloy wheels are also included.
The XKR Speed Pack is also available with the option of Gloss Black exterior styling features as part of the XKR Speed with Black Pack. This includes 20 inch Takoba alloy wheels with a gloss black finish, black brake calipers, and a gloss black finish to the upper and lower mesh grilles, side intakes, side power vents, boot lid finisher and window surrounds (gloss black window surrounds Coupe only).
