Safety

The safety of everyone who drives and travels in our vehicles is an essential part of the specification, design development and construction of all Jaguar vehicles.

We use computer models of our new vehicles to conduct a series of simulated crash tests. Virtual tests enable us to identify and mitigate potential risks before building prototype vehicles. When a prototype vehicle has been produced, we conduct rigorous crash tests to ensure all components meet our strict safety requirements.

  • PASSENGER SAFETY FEATURES

Passenger safety features built into our vehicles include enhanced front and side airbags, and headrests designed to minimise whiplash. The bags are dual stage and the passenger seats have occupancy and side crash sensors.

  • WEATHER AND TERRAIN RESPONSE

We help drivers to avoid accidents by designing our vehicles to be capable of responding rapidly to emergencies in different weather and terrain. Technology such as braking aids, Dynamic Stability Control and Active Roll Mitigation make our vehicles safer to drive.

  • ACTIVE SAFETY TECHNOLOGIES

We are progressively introducing ‘active safety technologies’ that help eliminate common causes of accidents including reversing camera, automatic cruise control and blind sport monitoring.

All Jaguar vehicles are now fitted with a ‘deploying bonnet’ system to protect pedestrians. In the event of a pedestrian being struck, sensors within the bumper trigger actuators that lift the bonnet before the pedestrian makes contact with it. The bonnet design is optimised to absorb energy gradually and minimise injury.

  • Jaguar Leaper

    ADVANCED RESTRAINT TECHNOLOGY SYSTEM (ARTS)

The occupancy sensing, airbags and seat belt pretensioners are electrically controlled by an ARTS. Various sensors determine the direction and severity of an impact and the presence and position of front seat occupants. The system analyses this information then deploys only the appropriate airbags e.g. the side air bags where the impact is on that side only. Airbags will not deploy at very low speeds or in rear impacts.

  • SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS)

Intelligent airbags – SRS – weight sensors, air bag positions, seatbelt pre-tensions.

  • ACTIVE HEAD RESTRAINTS (AHR)

Reduces the risk of whiplash, neck or spinal injury in the event of a rear impact. There are no serviceable parts required and after activation, the seat will return to its original position.

    • Dual front crash sensors
    • Restraint control module
    • Driver side crash sensor
    • Driver side head and thorax airbag
    • Driver pretensioner
    • Driver dual stage airbag (steering wheel)

Our cars are also assessed by independent, third party, safety organisations to ensure they meet international safety standards. This leaves your business drivers in safe hands and you can be confident that you are protecting your business and drivers.
