The development of the XF was based on two defining principles: that the driving experience should be a match for its looks and that it should demonstrate the unique Jaguar balance of ride, handling and refinement.

JAGUAR SEQUENTIAL SHIFT™
Jaguar Sequential Shift™ is our 6-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel-mounted 'paddles' for manual gear selection. The enhanced ZF electronically controlled 6-speed transmission utilizes the latest in automatic technology. A fully adaptive shift system gives smoother gear shifts and constantly adapts to suit your driving style.

JAGUARDRIVE SELECTOR™
Sit in an XF and the start button in front of the JaguarDrive Selector™ pulses red, like a heartbeat. Press it to start the engine and the cast alloy JaguarDrive Selector™ control rises softly into the palm of your hand, while the navigation system initializes and the rotating vents open. Then simply select transmission functions by turning the control with your fingertips, switching from Drive to Sport mode with a simple push and turn action.
-
JAGUARDRIVE CONTROL™
JaguarDrive Control™ offers a choice of driver selectable modes that tune powertrain characteristics to match road conditions and driving styles. On all models, JaguarDrive Control™ includes Winter Mode which softens the responsiveness of the engine and modifies the gear change strategy to improve traction in icy or slippery conditions. XFR and 5.0 Litre V8 models also offer Dynamic Mode, which adjusts the throttle, transmission shift strategy and stability control to deliver a more sporting driving experience. A two stage Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system similar to that featured on the XK is standard. It combines the normal on-off switchable DSC function, which reacts as soon as it detects slip, with Trac DSC, which can be selected if the driver wishes to allow more slip before the system intervenes. It also allows a degree of wheel overspin on deep soft surfaces. The system defaults to normal 'DSC on' with each ignition on sequence.
-
ADAPTIVE DYNAMICS
The balance of comfort and control evident in the suspension was honed by thousands of miles of development. Unlike conventional passive damper tuning, which simply chooses between soft damping for ride comfort and firm damping for responsive handling, the new Jaguar Adaptive Dynamics, available with the supercharged engines, calculates road-induced body motions 100 times per second and continuously varies the damping to suit driving conditions.
-
ACTIVE DIFFERENTIAL CONTROL
The electronically controlled active differential with handling functionality on the supercharged engines limits the slip between the rear wheels to optimize traction and stability in different driving conditions, working in harmony with the Traction, ABS and DSC systems.
-
SERVOTRONIC STEERING
Servotronic variable ratio power-assisted steering reduces parking effort at low speeds and provides greater precision and feedback at higher speeds. Steering effort at maneuvering speeds is also reduced.
-
CRUISE CONTROL WITH AUTOMATIC SPEED LIMITER (ASL)
In tandem with cruise control, an Automatic Speed Limiter allows the driver to select a maximum speed that should not be exceeded.
-
OPTIONAL ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL (WITH EBA)
The Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) uses microwave radar technology to monitor for slower moving traffic and can alert to potential hazards ahead. It can also control both throttle and brakes to help maintain a constant time gap to the vehicle in front. When the road ahead clears, the system automatically accelerates back to the previously set speed. Forward Alert provides an audible warning if traffic ahead slows down or if another vehicle moves into the lane in front. Advanced Emergency Brake Assist is an enhancement to the ACC function. Using the ACC radar, the system calculates distance and speed of approach to the vehicle in front and pre-charges the brakes to minimize impact speed if a collision is predicted.
-
ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE (EPB)
The XF uses Jaguar's Electric Parking Brake. The braking system communicates electronically with the shift-by-wire technology of the JaguarDrive Selector™ function, releasing the Electric Parking Brake automatically as you accelerate to pull away. It can also be engaged and disengaged manually if appropriate.
-
WINTER MODE - PERFORMANCE IN SNOW AND ICE
JaguarDrive Control™ gives the driver an opportunity to fine-tune the driving characteristics of the XF. This is achieved by selecting from the driving modes.
For winter conditions, Winter Mode is the choice for continued performance. Driving in this mode, changes the XF's functionality in these ways:
- Engine - tempers the responsiveness of the engine and modifies the gear change strategy to maintain optimum traction in snowy, icy or slippery conditions.
- Gearbox - when active, Winter Mode selects the second gear for pulling away. This provides the optimal amount of torque to the rear tires when accelerating from a stop position.
- Dynamic Stability Control - the vehicle performs in a more controlled manner, allowing more confident progress. Each time progression is monitored through the Dynamic Stability Control system. When slipping is detected, DSC will assist the driver to help maintain control.
