6-SPEED ELECTRONIC TRANSMISSION WITH JAGUAR SEQUENTIAL SHIFT™
The all new XJ's electronically controlled, 6-speed transmission uses sophisticated automatic transmission technology and incorporates new features to enhance the transmission functionality. A fully adaptive shift system is designed to give smooth gear shifts and optimum performance. The system provides continous adaptation of shift changes to suit the driving style of the driver, which can vary from sporting to economical.
As befits a sports sedan, and for maximum driver involvement, gears can also be selected manually using paddles mounted behind the steering wheel. -
JAGUARDRIVE SELECTOR™
The all new XJ’s automatic transmission is controlled by the JaguarDrive Selector™: a rotary shift interface that combines precise, intuitive control with leading edge ergonomics and interior design.
Press the START button to fire up the engine, and the cylindrical cast alloy JaguarDrive Selector™ rises up into the palm of the driver's hand while the Virtual Instruments and HD Touch-screen initialize. Automatic transmission functions are then selected by simply turning the control, and with a simple push and turn to move from Drive to Sport Mode. -
ADAPTIVE DYNAMICS AND DYNAMIC STABILITY CONTROL (DSC)
Unlike conventional passive damper tuning which must choose a compromise between soft damping for ride comfort and firm damping for responsive handling, the new Adaptive Dynamics system, standard in all XJ models, continuously varies the damping to suit the driving conditions.
The system calculates road induced body motions 100 times per second and sets each damper to the appropriate level to help maintain a flat and level body, bringing improved body control without loss of ride comfort. Roll rate and pitch rate control continuously measure the driver's steering, throttle and braking inputs in order to vary the damping and improve handling.
The Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system has three settings: the normal DSC function, which is designed to react when it detects slip; Trac DSC, which allows more slip before intervening for a more sporting driving experience for the skilled driver; and DSC off. The system defaults to normal 'DSC on' with each ignition on sequence. -
JAGUARDRIVE CONTROL™
JaguarDrive Control™ interacts with Adaptive Dynamics to offer driver selectable modes for different driving conditions and moods.
In Dynamic Mode, Adaptive Dynamics increases body control for a sportier feel. Dynamic Mode also interacts with the management electronics to give a more responsive accelerator pedal reaction and quicker gearshift responses. Engaging Dynamic Mode also causes the Virtual Instruments to reconfigure. The dials assume a sporting red hue, and feature a bold gear position indicator that glows red as the rev limiter is reached.
Winter Mode is another mode of driver control. Where Dynamic Mode offers a sportier feel, Winter Mode offers a more damped accelerator pedal response for more progressive control in slippery conditions, with bespoke shift settings that delay and soften gearshifts, designed to help give the driver better control with low grip. -
ACTIVE DIFFERENTIAL CONTROL
The all new XJ models powered by Jaguar's supercharged 470 hp and 510 hp engines feature Active Differential Control (ADC). This system uses a computer-controlled differential to distribute torque to the rear wheels in a much more sophisticated way than a conventional mechanical differential, which can improve both traction and dynamic stability and provide more sporting handling. It is fully automated, and can vary its locking torque dependent on the prevailing surface conditions, and is integrated to work in harmony with other systems such as Traction Control and ABS, further improving overall vehicle performance.

ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), standard on Supersport and optional on all other models, uses microwave radar technology hidden behind the front fender to monitor the road ahead. If the system senses that the car in front is moving more slowly, it is designed to automatically ease off the throttle or gently apply the brakes, in order to maintain a constant distance. Once the road ahead clears, ACC smoothly accelerates back to the preset speed. The system also features Forward Alert which is designed to provide an audible warning should traffic ahead slow quickly, or another vehicle move to the lane in front.

AUTOMATIC SPEED LIMITER
The Automatic Speed Limiter allows the driver to select a speed that should not be exceeded.
